The year was 1988, and Van Halen played a nearly sold out show at Alpine Valley on May 28. It was part of the
Monsters of Rock show. This show featured Sammy Hagar on vocals. The set opened with Summer Nights. Seeing that we were close to a Wisconsin summer night, I suppose that it was a fitting start. The next song was A.F. U. off of the "0u812" album. From there, they sang Black and Blue, Panama, and then went into a bass solo.
Coming out of the solo, Hagar did is best to punch out the song Runnin' With the Devil. That's certainly a favorite of most fans. The next song, Why Can't This Be Love would not be a fan favorite, but it did make it to the top of the charts.
The band made time for a drum solo, and five Sammy Hagar covers, before calling it a night. Their very last song was Rock and Roll by Led Zepplin. What's funny is catching a clip of the band playing on that tour.
Eddie took to wearing parachute pants during the tour. It was 1988 after all.
